Are GA Judges Denying Justice By Closing Courtrooms?
Two years ago, a case originating in DeKalb County Georgia went before the U.S. Supreme Court. At issue was whether judges could close a courtroom to the public for any reason. The court found that judges must do whatever possible to keep their courts open, except in rare circumstances. Atlanta Police Oversight Board Faces Resistance
The Atlanta Citizen Review Board (ACRB) was created after officers with the Atlanta Police Department shot and killed a 92-year old woman and planted drugs in her home to cover the botched raid. The board was seen as a way to hold the department accountable from the outside and to help maintain community trust in the system. But not everyone was or is convinced of the Board’s usefulness. Former Drug Prosecutor Faces Drug Charges
Former Atlanta-area prosecutor Rand Csehy was arrested last week on drug charges. He formerly prosecuted people accused of the same sort of drug crimes. Georgia Cop Allegedly Kicked Pregnant Woman In Stomach
Dekalb County police Officer Jerad Wheeler is under criminal investigation for kicking a pregnant woman in the stomach before arresting her. According to the Huffington Post, the incident happened on December 12, 2011 when Wheeler and other officers responded to calls of a domestic disturbance. [Read more…]
North Georgia Drug Task Force Waiting on $5 Million in Funding
The Atlanta High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area Tast Force (HIDTA), responsible for numerous raids and in-depth investigations into Mexican drug cartels in the North Georgia area last year, is waiting on the Atlanta City Council to vote on a $5 million federal grant, giving it funding for yet another year of big drug busts.
